Villarreal are a La Liga side based in the Castellón region of Spain, near Valencia. Nicknamed as El Submarino Amarillo (the yellow submarine), because of their distinctive home kit. They play their home games at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
Their main rivals are local side CD Castellón because of geographical proximity. They also contest the “Derbi de la Comunitat” against Valencia.
Founded in 1923, the club has never won a senior Spanish domestic trophy. The closest they came was in the 2007 – 2008 season when they finished runners-up in La Liga. In 2006 they reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, but were beaten by Arsenal. In that match Juan Román Riquelme miss a penalty which would have taken the tie and possible penalties. They have also three times featured in the semi-finals of the Europa League.
Although the club spent much of their earlier existence playing in lower league regional football, winning promotion to La Liga for the first time in 1998, they have been regulars in the top Spanish division since then, with one just a brief relegation to Segunda B in 2012 the only blot on this record.
At one stage this season Villarreal predictions were that they could again find themselves playing in the second tier of Spanish football next season. However, they have recovered and current Villarreal betting tips are that the side will safely survive to fight another campaign in La Liga.
And for next season Villarreal tips are to expect them to finish much higher in the table. Normally they are contending for a Europa League place and, with the right investment in the summer, they can expect to do so again.
