Stoke City are a Championship side based in The Potteries region of Staffordshire – hence the club’s nickname, The Potters. They play their home games at the Britannia Stadium. Their traditional kit is red and white striped shirts, and white shorts.
After Notts County they are the second oldest club in the world, and Founders of the Football League in 1888. Stoke have spent much of their existence either playing in the first or second tier of English football. They won promotion to the Premiership in 2008, where they spent a decade before relegate last season.
Despite their long history, the club has only ever won one senior English trophy, the League Cup in 1972, when they defeated Chelsea in the final. More recently they reached the 2011 FA Cup Final, only to go down to Manchester City.
Their main rivalry is with local club Port Vale. The two sides play in different leagues, and barely play matches together. Instead they have traditional rivalry with two fellow Midland sides, West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Many people’s Stoke City betting tips had the team down as favourites to regain their Premier League status. It is too late for them this season. However, an early Stoke City tip for next season is to expect them to be challenging at the top end of the Championship again under the stewardship of Jones.
