Reading Predictions

Reading are a Championship team based in Berkshire 30 miles west of London. Known as the Royals, they play their home games at the Madejski Stadium. Their traditional kit is white and blue hooped shirts, and blue shorts.

One of the oldest clubs in England, founded in 1871, it wasn’t until 1920 that they join the Football League. It would take them another 86 years before they played at the elite level for the first time, winning promotion to the Premier League in 2006. They relegate after two seasons, but returned for a solitary campaign in the 2012-2013 season. Reading have never won a senior English trophy; the closest they have come has been two FA Cup semi-final appearances in 1927, and 2015. Their best league finish came in 2007 when they finished eighth in the Premier League.

However, they do hold two league records:

  • The highest number of points gained in a professional league season in England.
  • The greatest number of successive wins at the start of a season (13) when winning the 1985 – 1986 Third Division.

More recently, after finishing third in the 2016 – 2017 regular season, they contested the Championship play-off final at Wembley, only to lose to Huddersfield Town on penalties.

Their traditional rivals were Aldershot before they went out of business in 1992. Since then their main rivals are Oxford United and Swindon Town, because of geographical proximity than deep-lying enmity.

Last season they struggled finishing 20th in the table, and those whose Reading betting tips for the current campaign had them as potential relegation candidates would have reward. Currently Reading predictions have them surviving and taking their place in the Championship for another year.

In terms of Reading tips for next season, expect to see them towards the bottom of the table again.
