Levante is a La Liga side based in Valencia. Nicknamed the Granotas (The Frogs) they play their home games at the Ciutat de Valencia Stadium. Their traditional kit is blue shirts with red sleeves, and blue shorts. The club’s name coming from that describing Spain’s East coast.
Founded in 1909 – ten years before Valencia – the club did not make it to La Liga itself until 1963. However, they soon slipped back in the second and third tier, and the club has enjoyed something of a yo-yo existence ever since, moving between La Liga and Segunda B on a regular basis.
Levante have never won a senior domestic honour in Spain. Their best league finish was in in 2012 when they came sixth and qualified for the Europe for the first time. In the following season’s Europa League they reached the last 16 before going out to Rubin Kazan.
More recently, they were relegated to Segunda B in 2016 but were promoted back as Champions the following season. Last year they finished 15th in the table.
Johann Cruyff played for half a season for Levante in the early 1980s.
Their main rivals are city neighbours Valencia, with first match between the two teams taking place in 1919.
Levante are a small club which has a history of financial problems off it – at the end of the 2008 season the players went on strike on the field as a protest against unpaid wages. That means Levante predictions should always be conservative. For the current season, current Levante betting tips suggest that the club will just escape relegation – although it is by no means a foregone conclusion.
And their fans should expect the same next year. Levante tips will always feature them as amongst the pre-season relegation candidates.
