Leganes are a La Liga side based on the outskirts of Madrid. Nicknamed Los Pepineros, they play their home games at Estadio Municipal de Butarque. Their traditional kit is blue and white striped shirts, and white shorts.
Founded in 1928, for the vast majority of its history, played in the lower leagues of Spanish football. As recently as 1987 they were still playing fourth tier regional football, but slowly began to climb the football pyramid, until, in 2016, they finally gained promotion to La Liga for the first time, after finishing runners-up in Segunda B.
Their best known player is Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o. The four time African player of the year and star for clubs like Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Chelsea, began his senior career with the club during a loan spell from Real Madrid. He manage to score 3 times in 28 appearances.
Leganes have local rivalries between sides such as Getafe and Rayo Vallecano which are also based in the Madrid areas. Whilst matches against Real and Atlético also count as Madrid derbies due to the vast disparity in history, resources and supporter bases, there is no real hostility in these encounters.
In their first two seasons in La Liga, the side avoided relegation each time by finishing 17th. Therefore, Leganes predictions for this season forecast a similar outcome. However, the team has performed better than many expected this campaign. Based on current standings, a sound Leganes betting tip is that the team will finish safely in mid table.
However, resources and budgets remain limited so any Leganes tips for next season should factor this in when considering potential relegation candidates.
