Ipswich Town is currently a Championship side – although seem, inevitably bound to be playing in League One next season. They play their home games at Portman Road, and wear traditional home colours of blue shirts and white shorts. The only professional club in Suffolk, also known as the Tractor Boys.
Their biggest rivals are Norwich City, with whom they contest the East Anglian derby, known as the “Old Farm derby”.
Founded in 1878, they remained an amateur team until 1936, joining the Football League two years later. Ipswich Town have enjoyed two golden eras.
Managed by Alf (later Sir Alf) Ramsey, the team won promotion to the First Division in 1961, and, the following year, won their only league title. That success led Ramsey to the England national team job in 1963. Three years later, he led them to World Cup triumph.
Then in the 1970s and early 1980s under the stewardship of Bobby (later Sir Bobby) Robson, the team finished runners-up in the league twice, won the FA Cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup three years later. The club has the proud record of never lose at home in European competitions, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan and Inter amongst their scalps.
Sadly for the team and their supporters, those days are long gone, and now, in terms of Ipswich betting tips, it is a question of when, not if, the team will be relegated after 16 years in the Championship.
With their fate decided this season, attention now focuses on Ipswich predictions for next campaign. While the fans hope they bounce straight back, Division One is a hard league to gain promotion. Instead a more likely Ipswich tip is for a mid-place finish in their first season in the lower division.
