Southampton, known as The Saints, are a Premier League tema from the South Coast of England. They currently play their home games at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Founded in 1885, it was not until after The First World War that Southampton gained league status, and it would be a further 45 years before they first played in the old First Division. They then spent a period in the Second Division (now the Championship), during which time they secured the club’s only major honour, pulling off a surprise to beat Manchester United in the 1976 FA Cup final.
They regained their position in the top division in 1977, and stayed there for 28 years, before relegate to Championship. Since 2012 they have again been a Premier League club.
Their main rivals are Portsmouth, situated just 18 miles from Southampton. In recent years they have also enjoyed derbies with fellow South Coast sides Bournemouth and Brighton.
In terms of Southampton betting tips the issue at the start of each season has been whether they will be involved in the relegation fight again, and this year has been no exception. The club were in the bottom three during the first part of the season, and their survival is not secure.
One Southampton prediction is that the club will continue to sell some of its best talents to balance its books. In the past five years they have sold Luke Shaw, Dejan Lovren, Virgil van Dyck, Toby Alderweireld, and Sadio Mané.
Another Southampton tip is that the club will have more than one manager in the course of the season. From one of the more stable clubs in terms of management in the Premier League, they have gone the other way and have had twelve different managers in the past decade.
