Real Sociedad is a La Liga side based in the city of San Sebastien in the Basque region of Spain. Nicknamed Txuri-urdinak (The White and Blues) they play their home games at the Anoeta Stadium. Their traditional kit is white and blue striped shirts, and white shorts.
Established in 1909, by students and workers who had returned to Spain after spending time in Britain, they were founder members of La Liga in 1929. Their most successful spell came during the 1980s – they were league champions twice, and runners-up on two further occasions. They also have won the Copa del Rey twice.
Like Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad had a policy of only signing Basque players for many years. The first non-Basque to play for them was former Liverpool striker John Aldridge in 1989. A more recent British connection with the club came in 2014 when former Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes was appointed as manager.
Their main local rivalry is with Athletic Bilbao with whom they contest the Basque derby. They also have rivalries with the other clubs located in the Basque region such as Alavés and Eibar.
The club were continuous members in the top flight of 1967 to 2007, and after a three year spell in Segunda B, they regained their top flight status in 2010. Real Sociedad predictions do not usually have them listed as relegation candidates.
Nor they are they contenders for the title. With a few games of the season to go, they could finish as high as 8th or as low as 14th – Real Sociedad betting tips now forecast a mid-table finish for the current campaign.
And do not expect much more next time round. Another mid-table finish is an early Real Sociedad tip for 2019 – 2020.
