Preston North End are a Championship team based in Lancashire, North-West England. Nicknamed the Lilywhites because of the colour of their shirts, their home ground is Deepdale which has the distinction of being the oldest football ground in continuous use by a league club anywhere in the world.
Founded in 1880, Preston was a Founder Member of the Football League. In 1889, became the first English side to compete a domestic league and cup double. They won the league again in 1889, and the FA Cup for a second time in 1938.
The club’s most famous player was Tom Finney. Known as the “Preston Plumber” because of his occupation outside football, he became the team’s all-time top goal scorer with 187 goals. He also scored 30 international goals for England and have a statue outside Deepdale.
Relegated from the top tier of English football in 1961, they have not competed at the elite level since 1985-1986. Suffered the indignity of having to apply for re-election after they finished 23rd in the Fourth Division. They have since climbed back up the football pyramid, and have been in the Championship for the past four seasons.
A steady Preston prediction for the current season would have forecast a mid-table finish and, as the campaign draws to a close, that now looks the most likely outcome. A few weeks ago, hopes raised that the team could force its way into the play-off race, and Preston betting tips change. But the team probably has too much to do now.
One Preston tip for the summer is to expect their current manager Alex Neal to move.
