Hannover 96 is a Bundesliga side based in Lower Saxony. Nicknamed Die Roten, they play their home games at the HDI-Arena. Their traditional kit is red shirts and white shorts (although, ironically, the club’s historic colours are green).
Founded in 1896 – hence the origins of the name – they won their first national championship in 1938. That create a big upset by beating the dominant team of the time, Schalke 04. They won a second German title in 1954, and the German Cup in 1992, but have not won a senior domestic trophy since.
Their traditional rivals are Eintracht Braunschweig, now playing in the third tier of German football.
Even for non-football fans, a Hannover prediction is that they might have heard of the club because of the tragic death of the club’s goalkeeper, and German number one, Robert Enke, who committed suicide after standing in front of a train in 2009.
The club attracted adverse publicity two years ago. A large group of its ultra-fans travelled to England to play a pre-season friendly with Burnley, causing trouble in the town centre before the match, and then causing the game to be abandoned at half-time, after disturbances in the stadium.
In recent years, the club has struggled at the wrong end of the Bundesliga and were relegated at the end of the 2015/2016 season. However, the team managed to come straight back up again as runners-up in Bundesliga 2.
However, any Hannover betting tips for the current season that had them repeating that sort of feat have proved misplaced. The club are bottom of the table and will be playing in the second division next season. However, based on recent history, a Hannover tip is to expect them to be challenging for promotion back again.
