Girona are a La Liga side based in Catalonia. Nicknamed the Blanquivermelis (the White & Reds) they play their home games at the Montillvi Stadium, and their traditional kit is red and white diagonal stripes, and red shorts.
The cub is part owned by the City Football Group, who also own teams like Manchester City and NY City. Another part of the club have it a consortium led by Pep Guardiola’s brother. As a result of the City connection, several players are on loan at Girona from The Etihad.
Founded in 1930, Girona have spent nearly all their years playing at the lower levels of Spanish football. As recently as 1999 they were in the fifth tier of the Spanish football pyramid, playing regional football. However, with a revised ownership structure and significant investment in the club, they have risen steadily through the leagues, and reached La Liga for the first time in 2017.
