Getafe is a La Liga side based in the Madrid metropolitan area. Nicknamed Azulones (The Deep Blues), they play their home games at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. Their traditional kit is blue shirts and shorts.
Founded in 1924, the side played most of its football during its formative years in lower regional football. The original Getafe club was liquidated in 1982 because the players had not been paid. Reformed in 1983, gained successive promotions until it reached Segunda B.
A few years of turbulence and relegations followed but the club climbed back again, surviving more financial problems and the murder of one of their players, until they finally reached La Liga in 2004. They maintained their top flight status for 12 years, achieving a best ever league finish of 6th in the 2009 – 2010 season, but relegate in 2016. However, they came back up again at the first time of asking and finished 8th last season.
The team has never won a senior domestic honour, although they were runners-up in the Copa del Rey.
Their main rivalry is with Leganés because of close geographical proximity. There are also Madrid rivalries with Real and Atlético.
Based on last season, the most optimistic Getafe predictions for the current season would have seen them emulating last season’s finish. They are unlikely contenders to finish in the Champions League places for the first time in their history. Getafe betting tips suggest that they may have to settle for a Europa League place instead, but that would still be a significant achievement in itself for such a small club.
Getafe tips for next season suggest that such an outcome will be hard to match.
