Based in south-west London, Chelsea are the 8th richest club in the world. Founded in 1905, the club had a mediocre record of success until 2003, winning the league just once, in 1955. Relying on occasional triumph in cup competitions.
In that year the billionaire Roman Abramovich acquired the team. He start to pump millions into the club, investing in the best players and facilities. Since then Chelsea have won the Premier League five times, and both the FA Cup and the League Cup on three occasions. They have also enjoyed success in Europe; winning the Champions League in 2013, and were runners-up in 2008. They also won the Europa League in 2013.
Chelsea have become notorious in recent years for the way that they hire and fire managers. José Mourinho, the most successful manager in the club’s history, has been sacked twice. He led the team to win three Premier League titles. And the same fate befell Antonio Conté who won the Premier League in his first season, and the FA Cup next campaign, but was dismissed shortly afterwards. Current Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri, also listed by bookmakers as one of the favourites managers to lose his job.
Chelsea play in their traditional kit of Royal Blue shirts and white socks, and currently play at Stamford Bridge, However, there are plans to expand the stadium, and the club may be forced to follow the example of one of their London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, and decamp to Wembley Stadium on a temporary basis whilst the work takes place.
