Bolton is a Championship side from the greater Manchester region. Currently they play at the University of Bolton Stadium, and wear a traditional kit of white shirts and blue shorts.
Founded in 1874, they were one of the 12 original founders of the Football League in 188. Bolton hold the dubious distinction of having spent more time in the top division than any other club. They never win the league, but they get three third-place finishes being their best ever performance.
However, they have won the FA Cup four times, most memorably in 1923 when they beat West Ham in the first ever final at Wembley. It became known as the “White Horse” final after a police horse named Billie was used to help clear the more than 150,000 spectators who flooded into the new stadium.
A less happy event for the club was the Burnden Park disaster of 1946, when severe overcrowding for an FA Cup tie resulted in 33 people died crushed, and hundreds more injured. It remained the worst tragedy in English football until the 1980s.
These days Bolton, who lost their Premier League status in 2012, seem fated to move between Championship and League One. Promoted from the lower league in 2017, they just escaped relegation last season; a Bolton prediction for this campaign would have been a similar finish or better.
Instead, beset by financial problems off the pitch which has seen staff go underpaid and the players threaten to strike. The team are in the bottom three, and a Bolton betting tip for the remainder of this season is that they will go back down again.
New investors are ready to buy the club. One Bolton tip for next season is that they will be battling in the League One promotion race.
