Serie A

Serie A is the top league in Italy and features teams that are known the world over – Juventus, AC and Inter Milan, and Napoli to name but a few. Like all the major European leagues it is an attractive market on which to bet but, before giving any Serie A betting tips, it is important to know something about the league and its format.

Serie A contains twenty teams who play each other home and away over the course of the season. They are competing for the title, places in next season’s European competitions, prize money, and to avoid relegation.

The team that finishes with the most points at the end of the season are champions. They and the teams that end up in second, third and fourth places, qualify for the following season’s Champions League. Teams that finish fifth and sixth qualify for the Europa League; a further Europa League place is for the winners of the Italian Cup. In the event the winners of the cup have already qualified for Europe by dint of their league position, then their place goes to the team that finishes seventh.

At the other end of the table, the three teams that finish bottom are relegated to the second division – Serie B.

When and why to bet on Serie A betting predictions?

In terms of Serie A predictions, the easiest one to make at the start of the season currently is who will win the league (also known as the Scudetto). Juventus have won the title for the last seven seasons and are overwhelming favourites to do so again this year. It was not always so. Serie A betting tips had AC Milan and Inter amongst the potential champions when it came to Italian predictions. However, poor coaching, financial mismanagement, unsuccessful transfer policies, and an influx of money from the Champions League have now created a gap between Juventus and the rest of the league.

Given, therefore, there is comparatively little value to be had in Serie A betting predictions in terms of league champions, predicting which teams finish behind Juventus can be more interesting. Any such Serie A predictions should include not only the two Milanese sides – AC Milan and Inter, as well as the two clubs from Rome, Roma and Inter. Napoli and Atlanta are strong teams and need to be included in the equation.

  • More than Serie A betting tips

Alternatively, Serie A betting predictions may choose to focus on which sides will be relegated at the end of the season, In this case, as with any other European league, a Serie A betting tip is to look at which teams were promoted last season as strong candidates to struggle next time in a higher division, because they are facing bigger teams with better resources. For example, Serie A predictions for this season that had promoted teams Frosinone and Empoli to be relegation candidates would have been accurate – they currently occupy two out of the bottom four places in the table.
