League 1

League One is the third tier of English professional football. Also known as Football League Division Three before its rebranding in its current guise. It is a highly competitive and physical league which has acquired the reputation as being really difficult to promote.

In part this is due to the composition of the teams in the division, and, when making League One predictions, it is important to understand this. At one end of the spectrum are bigger teams which play high level, but lost their way and are desperate. The current league one roster includes seven teams that have played in the Premier League recently. At the other end of the scale there are a handful of upwardly mobile clubs that may have begun life in non-league, but have begun to steadily climb the football pyramid – Luton Town and Fleetwood Town are such examples. And then there are those sides battling to avoid relegation to League Two, and the financial impacts that may bring.

At the end of the season, the top two sides automatically promote to the Championship. The teams that finish in the third to sixth positions in the league table enter a knock-out competition to decide the third promotion place. At the other end of the table, the bottom four sides at the end of the season automatically relegate.

Prize money is assigned to teams based on where they finish in the league table.

How to bet on League 1 predictions?

If you want League 1 football tips, in terms of predicting potential promotion candidates, start with the teams that came down from the Championship, or those who promote, and see what steps they have taken to strengthen. Have they invested in the squad and do they have a management team experienced at this level?

For example, somebody who based their League 1 predictions 2018 19 on these criteria, would note that two of the top three teams presently, Sunderland and Barnsley, relegate last season from the Championship.

Conversely, if you want a League 1 football tip for relegation contenders, look at the teams that struggled last campaign. There is a good chance they will be struggling again this time round. Again, to take this season as an example, those who use that logic when making their League 1 predictions for 2018 19, will not be surprise to see teams like Walsall, Rochdale and Wimbledon currently in the drop zone.

Use strategy to bet on League 1 Football Tips?

As with any league, many people prefer to bet, not on the outcome of the season, but instead to make their League One predictions based on the next round of fixtures.  The same League 1 football tips should be followed as with any other league on which you want to bet.

Study the teams carefully, their form, recent results, and performance in head-to-head meetings with their next opponents. Learn if they are strong at home, play well on the road, have struggles to score, or are mean defensively. Don't forget to check if either team are usually playing bad when they have suspensions or injuries to key players.

Another important consideration when making League 1 predictions is to understand the context of the match.  There are several levels to this. The obvious one is to study where the two sides are in the league table.  But is the match being played towards the end of the season, when one team has got nothing left to play for, whilst the other is striving tooth and nail to avoid relegation?

If you are not from UK, or your geographical knowledge it's basic, check if it's a local derby or not. Based on the current teams in League One, it is important to know that Charlton and Wimbledon are both London teams, or that Blackpool and Fleetwood are just 7 miles apart. This could have a bearing on the match and how the teams perform beyond their league standing.
